With the threat of rain for the Sunday races cleared, both Saturday and Sunday’s live televised racing was a show of power and thrills as Lake Race took to the waters of Lake of the Ozarks (LOTO). The Race Producers, their Steering Committee, Sponsors and Volunteers set the stage for a great weekend of powerboat racing. Six classes of boats competed for $75,000 in total purse monies. The weekend even included a Pontoon Boat Race featuring 5 Tri-Toons and an Open Extreme Class combining teams from various canopied spec classes to compete together for a $40,000 purse.
State Highway Business 54 was closed to traffic for the weekend to allow the roadway to be used for Race Village and even the Bagnell Dam had fans on it allowing for a fantastic view of the race course. Michael Shepherd, Lake Race Co-Chair said, “On behalf of the Lake Race steering committee, and Lake of the Ozarks in general, we thank OSS for the professional way you managed our race. OSS has become synonymous with racing here at Lake of the Ozarks, and you proved once again why our community has put faith in your organization over the years. As we contemplate future Lake Race events, I am sure you will play a key role in our planning efforts. Our great thanks for a job well done”.
After two full days of racing, Terry Kuchenberg of Midwest Boats of Iowa took first place in the Tri-Toon Class, while Team CMS took the big prize in Open Extreme. Taking the checkered flag in Super Stock was Talbot Excavating, ProAM 1 Team Batman, ProAm 2 Second Amendment and ProAM 4 was won by Apex Manufacturing.
